SUCCESS AT BADMINTON FINALS!!
Holmfirth High School were the big winners at the Kirklees Youth Games Badminton Finals, which were held at Huddersfield Sports Centre, claiming 3 of the 4 titles, with Honley securing the other title.
The finals featured the winners of the Partnership heats in each category, and were played on a round robin basis with 5 games per match. This meant that all 4 players in the squad played in two of the 2 singles and 3 doubles matches. The team who topped the table at the end of the rounds were crowned champions. The finals were arranged by Competition Managers Mick Troop and Seth Foster, with support on the day from Liz Kenny of Huddersfield Eagles Badminton club and Badminton England Regional Officer David Dewey. Young Leaders from Greenhead College and Kirklees College officiated and scored the matches as part of the valuable contribution they make to supporting school sports events.
In the under 14 Boys competition, Holmfirth won all 3 matches by a 5 – 0 score line.
In the Under 14 Girls section, Honley came out on top, also winning all 3 matches..
The under 16 Boys competition saw Holmfirth emerge victorious in all 3 matches, but in the closest battle of the day, they had to dig deep to beat eventual runners up Heckmondwike Grammar by 3 – 2.
Holmfirth completed another clean sweep in the Under 16 Girls section, winning all 3 games 5 – 0.
All the winners now go on to represent Kirklees in the Badminton England Regional Finals, while the runners up progress to the West Yorkshire Youth Games.
