Kirklees Finals
The finals of the Kirklees Youth Games Under 14's and Under 16's Basketball took
place on Tuesday 23 February 2010 at Huddersfield Sports Centre.
The finals, which pitted the winners of the respective North Kirklees and South
Kirklees basketball leagues, were organised by Competition Managers Mick Troop and
Seth Foster, with West Yorkshire Basketball Development Officer Louise Purdy also in
attendance. Both finals weer excellently controlled by new qualified official Toby
Simons.
The Under 14's final was a closely fought affair between Whitcliffe Mount and
Honley. Honley edged ahead in the 1st Quarter by 6 - 3, but Whitcliffe Mount turned
this around to lead 9 - 8 at half time. The game remained in the balance at the end
of the 3rd Quarter with Honley 16 - 15 ahead, before Honley pulled away in the 4th
Quarter to seal victory by 25 - 15. Huatao Liu top scored for Honley with 10 points,
supported by Elliott Morris and Toby King who had 6 points apeice. Andrew
Bateman-West led the Whitcliffe Mount effort with 9 points.
The Under 16's final was a less dramatic encounter, with an impressive Salendine
Nook team proving to be too good for a gallant Birkdale team, and winning
comfortably by 80 - 14. Birkdale battled to the very end, but ultimately were unable
to cope with the outstanding duo of Callum Hall, who led all scorers with 28 points,
and Teo Devaney who netted 17 points.
